This is another novel from McMahon that uses two time periods to tell a startling story. Back in 1908, a woman is found dead behind her house just months after the death of her daughter. Now, a mother of two girls goes missing and it’s up to her oldest to decipher the mystery spiraling out in snowy Vermont. Atmospheric is the prominent word when thinking of this book and its author’s style. It’s disappointing to read this when there’s zero snow on the ground, but you know, global warming and such. Legends, secrets, ghosts, and all the creepies are all shimmering down in this quintessential solstice read. (12/25).
