The Halloween Tree (1972) #31DaysofHalloween

“Everything seemed cut from soft black velvet or gold or orange velvet. Smoke panted up out of a thousand chimneys like the plumes of a funeral parade.” I really did save the best for last- The Halloween Tree. This is one of the most magical stories I have ever read and proves that Halloween is the best holiday. Bradbury just gets it, and thankfully he shared his feelings and words with all his readers. The 1993 animated feature adds the final plod of dirt on top of the grave, for it’s both faithful and spirited in its own way. I’ve watched it twice this month. My heart is always full after reading this. Halloween has always been dear to me and when I discovered this, I realized I wasn’t the only one that felt that spark when seeing fallen leaves and macabre decorations. Magical is really the only word to describe it. Happy Halloween, my fellow creepy readers! [31/31].
