Monster, She Wrote (2019) #31DaysofSpookyBooks

A few 2019 releases are going to make this list and this is one of them. It’s a nonfiction about the female authors who started and invigorated the genres we devour today. It’s lighthearted but educational and it puts you in the mood to explore abandoned castles and search for ghosts because a large portion of it is about the origins of the Gothic and spectral in fiction (which I EAT UP with a spoon). It makes its way to the modern era with the likes of Rice and Oyeyemi and concludes with an inspiring message for all lady writers out there. The illustrations are to die for and it’s sectioned off perfectly for those of us who can’t commit to hours of nonstop reading. [Full review link here!] (11/31)
